Bashall Barn sits in the Ribble Valley, and the thing that makes it different to photograph is the balcony. The ceremony room opens straight out onto it, and it looks down over the grounds where the outdoor ceremony happens.

How a Bashall Barn day runs

Confetti happens round the back, near the vintage tractor. It's the one bit of the day worth getting everyone organised for, and it takes about two minutes. After that people spread out between the balcony and the grounds below.

The balcony

If there's one spot at Bashall Barn I'd make sure we use, it's the balcony. It looks down over the grounds, and the light comes in from the side rather than straight down, which is kinder on faces. That's where I'd take you for your couple photographs. It's a short walk, it doesn't take long, and you're back with your guests quickly.

If your ceremony is outside

Bashall Barn can hold the ceremony outside, in the grounds below the balcony. If that's what you're planning, tell me early. An outdoor ceremony changes where I need to stand and how much room I've got to move, and it's easier to work that out beforehand than on the day.

How I work

The same way at Bashall Barn as anywhere else. I don't stop the day to arrange things, and I photograph it as it happens. You won't spend your afternoon being posed. Apart from the confetti and the group shots, most of what you end up with is what actually went on while you were busy enjoying it. The person you speak to is the person who turns up on the day.
